Materials & craftsmanship

A short, honest guide to the wood species, finishes and hardware that go into a Kurumban interior — what we use, when, and why.

Wood species

We do not use one wood for everything. Each species has a purpose — the right grain for a door, the right density for a kitchen, the right tone for a pooja room. Here are the ones we trust.

  • Burma Teak

    மியான்மர் தேக்கு

    Premium

    Best for

    Doors, pooja rooms, heirloom furniture

Tight grain, naturally oiled, ages golden over years.

  • Indian Teak

    நாட்டு தேக்கு

    Premium

    Best for

    Cabinetry, panelling, structural joinery

Sourced from Nilambur and Mysore. Stable, dense, dependable.

  • Rosewood

    ரோஸ்வுட்

    Heirloom

    Best for

Carved doors, dining sets, statement furniture

Deep walnut tones with darker grain figure.

  • Acacia

    அக்காசியா

    Mid

    Best for

    Modular kitchen frames, side cabinets

    Hard, water-resistant, takes finish beautifully.

  • Birch Marine Ply

    பிர்ச் மரின் ப்ளை

    Engineered

    Best for

    Wardrobe carcasses, kitchen cabinets

    BWP-grade plywood for moisture-prone areas.

  • White Oak

    ஓக் (வெள்ளை)

    Premium

    Best for

    Flooring, fluted panelling, wardrobes

European import. Cool, contemporary, gorgeous in fluted form.

Finishes

A finish should protect the wood without hiding it. Every one of these is applied in our own paint room — never sub-contracted.

  • 01

    Hand-rubbed PU Matte

A close-to-the-grain matte that lets the wood breathe visually.

  • 02

    Open-pore Lacquer

For modern projects — feels like raw wood, protects like a finish.

  • 03

    High-gloss PU

Mirror-grade gloss, only when the design calls for it.

  • 04

    Veneer with Shellac

Traditional French-polish revived for heritage furniture.

  • 05

    Distressed & Aged

For pooja work and antique restoration. Done by hand, never by machine.

  • 06

    Laminate (Premium)

Greenlam, Merino, Sundek — for budget-conscious modular work without compromise.

Hardware partners

  • Hettich

Soft-close hinges, slim drawer systems, wardrobe sliders. German engineering, lifetime feel.

  • Hafele

Premium fittings, lift-up cabinet hardware, lighting integrations.

  • Blum

Tip-on, soft-close, AVENTOS — used for kitchen modules where movement matters most.

  • Ebco

Reliable Indian hardware for value-tier projects.
